    Screw-in Welsh Plug (527269)

    Hello All,

I have a quick question before I go and make myself a new tool.

I am replacing the screw-in welsh plug on the rear left of my 2.25 Diesel. Item 5 in the following image. 2.25_petrol_block.jpeg

I am replacing it with the engine in situ and fully assembled.

The actual version of the plug that I am removing is the one in the following image. 527269.jpg

Is there a tool or combination of tools that anyone has used to remove this plug with the engine installed and fully assembled? I just can't seem to hold my tongue right with anything I've tried so far. I'm just about to get on the welder and make a bar with a tab but I'm wondering if there is a simpler solution available to me first.

I'm removing the plug because the base of it has corroded through.

    Cheers,

    Rohan.

    Hey Rohan,

Well, a bar with a tab would most likely sort it. Aside from that, I guess you've probably tried it...... but if you have any sort of drive which could slot in there and catch the lugs, that should work.

Somebody might come along here and suggest a particular special service tool, but I'm not aware of one, sorry.

    Cheers,

    John

Thanks John. I was thinking improvisation would be the case here. I haven't tried yet but I'll grind a piece of 1" flat steel down to size and see if I can get the Stilsons onto that.

I'm still soaking it with WD for the time being.

    Cheers,

    Rohan.
