    Series 3 power steering

I have just purchased a 1981 series 3 LWB, 4 cyl petrol wagon. What success have people had with mods to fit power steering. Found the ones from Netherlands but they are very expensive and do not alter the amount of turns of steering wheel lock to lock. Also Steve Parker in UK. Any help appreciated.

I've fitted power steering to my Dormobile, I used P38 steering box, early defender column and the original steering wheel still fits. Much easier in tight spots

Forgot to add that I basically used the same bits as Steve Parker does on his conversions, he's very helpful

I mostly built an electric conversion for mine before the project stalled. Motor assembly from a Prius fitted to a modified steering shaft - basically cut and re splined to suit the box. Bracket was going to mount it all under the dash and it would bolt straight in.

Cost me around $120 all in for the motor and spline work - I made everything else. My biggest concern was the stress this would put on the standard steering system - links, relay and steering box - not sure if it would pass Engineering but could be an option. I would have been happy to drive it myself, but I'm not offering this advise as either a safe nor Engineered conversion, just more of a thought bubble - it is doable.

Not sure how handy with a welder, mill and lathe you are, but there wasn't anything terribly difficult about it. It also means a standard column can be bolted back in to make everything standard if needed.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

I recently bought a LHD CPP power steering box from USA for my Power Wagon and plumbed a Holden Astra electric pump to power it as I did not want mess the looks of the Flathead engine by mounting a steering pump on it. Good move the Astra pump is seriously good.

Now this steering box would be perfect to bolt in place of the original Landy steering box, in the existing position on the firewall bracket, its 3.5 turns lock to lock , and rotation is correct , Probably be the easiest Landy PS conversions ever , just need to change the adaptor plate to suit and mate your steering column to it. (no I did not use that horrible fabricated pitman arm that came with it in the background )
