Further to my previous post, if i get a letter from Landrover Australia confirming my car is legitimate then I have to submit the car to a police station before i can get it registered. What a drama!!!
Hello, i went to VicRoads to get the series 3 registered yesterday, Usual nightmare at VicRoads. There is one letter different on the Chassis number that is stamped on the rear of the chassis just behind the rear passenger side wheel.
It is a different letter on the compliance plate. VicRoads refused to register the car and said it is a “suspect.” Vehicle.
I have got on to Landrover Australia head office and had no luck there. I am at my wit’s end. The car is all genuine. I tried to get previous rego papers from the previously owners but no luck. Has anyone else had this problem? Any advice anyone?
Cheers, Dave.

I'm not sure that Land Rover Australia will be able to, or even interested in, helping but best of luck.
Details of the chassis number & ID plate number might help (but you might not want to post these on the forum).
The last letter gives modifications from the original design Series Vehicle Identification Numbers From SII Onwards | Land Rover UK Forums
So the numbers are unique to the vehicle the letter at the end only tells you details that would be needed when ordering spare parts.
If your chassis is 123456A there wasn't a 123456B, C or D etc.
Still doesn't explain why the discrepancy happened and I'm sure you'll have trouble getting this across the line with VicRoads !

If you just need to have the same numbers on the chassis & compliance plate , new compliance plates are available to stamp the number that is on the chassis on it . I don't know about other states but in Qld , Qld Transport can have the correct numbers in the computer for years & then one of the numbers will change . I have had this happen with my S1 twice in last 30years & have had to go in to have number sited .to fix it up.
I'm having the same issue with Vicroads and my '85 County, went in a month ago to get it registered, person behind the counter said she couldn't find it on the system, seems that the RWC guy put the chassis number on the RWC not the VIN and there are to numbers different, the she said she couldn't read the chassis number but I could read it, the RWC guy could read it and anyone else I've shown the car to can read it, I was then advised that my car was now a suspect vehicle and that someone would call be back in a week or two with some answers.
Fast forward to last Wednesday and I contacted Vicroads and tried to follow up with what is happening and I was then informed it is a 2-3 month wait for Vicpol to run their checks, then I will be issues with a refence number to restart the registration process including obtaining a new RWC, that's if everything checks out.
I spoke to Vicroads before I purchased the car and there were no red flags to say the car was suspect, it was on club reg until I picked it up from the previous owner and I can still find the car on the Vicroads system when I do a club reg check.
I'll keep you posted if I have any luck with Vicroads but you might just have to wait to hear back from them.
Cheers Troy
