    Lower dash air vent reassembly

I'm presently reassembling the dash on my 1975 88" and seem to be having a few issues getting the air control mechanism back in its correct position.

I pulled it apart some time ago and didn't pay much attenton to how it was actually setup thinking it would be fairly intuitive when the time came to put it back together. Unfortunately, that was not good thinking....

    Some photos might help.

The first photo shows the hinge set up and the aperture through which air can be directed through the two airvents underneath the lower dash panel.

The second photo is one end of the flap assembly that pivots to open and close the air flow through those vents when the cable lever is shifted at the instrument panel. My assumption was that the most obvious way for the flap assembly to be properly secured is for the hinge to pass right around the rod.

However, if it is set up that way then - as shown in the third photo - the flap doesn't completely seal off the aperture. The flap rod doesn't move as freely as it ought to either.

An alternative set up that does fully cover the aperture has the hinge only securing the back edge of the flap (passing between the edge and the rod) - but I'm not sure if that is the correct way either.

If anyone has recently put one of these things back together or has a lower dash panel lying around that is correctly set up then I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

    Cheers,

    Neil
