Here’s what I’ve got at the moment
Hi all
So I’ve installed an old Fairey of unknown history behind my 2.25 Petrol and LT76 in a 1977 88”. Been running it for a few months, couple of issues that I’m looking for advice on.
1. Noisy, whiny both engaged and disengaged … currently solving that with earplugs.
2. Oil level always way too high. Seems to be coming from the transfer case as that was a bit low.
And probably because it’s too full, it blows a nice oily mist out of the breather. Assume having it too full isn’t great for it.
I’ve partially solved the mess underneath with a dodgy’d up catch can from the breather.
BUT … I saw a post on another forum by Whitehillbilly64 (hope he sees this, not sure how to tag him) where he added a breather to the top TC cover plate and joined them up with what looked like an inline fuel filter.
So questions are:
Would this help the Fairey overfilling by itself by letting them equalise?
Did he just drill and tap a nipple into the TC cover plate?
Any other suggestions appreciated.
Thanks

Here’s what I’ve got at the moment
I drilled and tapped the top plate and extended the breather up to near the box. It is offset to the left to avoid the tool box under the centre seat.
I topped it with the breather off a Series axle.
When servicing the car a couple of days ago I found the overdrive about 1cm high, and the transfer case about 10-15mm low.

do you mean the breather from the Fairey top plate or the TC top plate?
If the TC, do you get anything out of your Fairey breather now you’ve got a vent on the TC?

No, I mean the Fairey top plate.
With the raised breather nothing comes out the breather.

Hi Richard.
I think I just drilled a hole and JB Weld to fix fittings in place.
My OD settled with 800mls of oil from the Transfer, so now when I change the oil, I add 800mls to the OD, and everything is Happy.
Yes, filter is a small motorCycle one reversed with some Flyscreen cable tied to the end. It stops those pesky Mud Wasps.
whitehillbilly.
Thanks WhiteHillBilly
Ill shape something up 😃 hopefully to enable any “shared” oil to go back in rather than all over the underside of the seat box and tub.
cheers
Richard
Oil over the Underside of seat box and Tub could also be a leaking seal from the rear output shaft.

Or anywhere in front as far as the front crankshaft seal!
