    Rim widths and offsets.

Note 1: Discovery rims are 7" with negative offset - similar to 130 rims.

Note 2: Above diagram not to scale, representative of relative positions only.

U bolts for Series 3 Land Rovers

    Hello from Brisbane.

A quick question about identifying the correct U bolts for a Series 3 88” model.

My truck is nominally a 1975 build S3 by its chassis number. However, some if not most of the running gear most likely came from other vehicles.

I am thinking of replacing the U bolts as part of a suspension upgrade but am having a bit of difficulty deciding what the correct size is for the truck. My limited understanding is that U bolts come as either 7/16” or metric (~9/16”) and according to the Series 3 parts catalogue these may be differentiated by whether the axle is C or D suffix. However, other sources suggest that all S3 trucks have the metric bolts.

Which is correct and how do you identify a C or D suffix axle?

Incidentally, my callipers suggest the diameter of the existing bolts is larger than 7/16” but smaller than 9/16”.

    Cheers,

    Neil
