I have an overhead/roof console which houses my radio and CBs. Basically a 6" deep piece of marine ply covered in marine carpet. Can take pics if you wish.
I just brought a series 3 ute. 81 model with diesel installed. I am looking at puting my uhf in it. does anyone have a nice place to put it or a place they are better accessable to use and how do they go with wiring.
cheers

Dito. I have the same set up cd/radio, uhf, uhf marine, vhf ( dont ask why)
All above the windscreen on a piece of 6 inch ply with a verticle piece to house the front of the radios and maps and occilating fan ( yeah kingswood style, hahaha.
Just a tip. not good to mount your electrics below the dash as series trucks tend to leak and if your goodies are up high you can hose the car out after playing with it.
good luck
On my 2a the UHF is on the bulkhead behind the centre seat, with the microphone on the frame above the window at the rear of the cab. It is wired independently to the ignition switch, with coax to the antenna on the bull bar. Since I am mostly on the one channel this works well, and it is out of the way. To change channels, operate volume etc, just fold the seatback forward.

When you wire it up, connect the positive, (red), directly to the battery, and the negative, (black), NOT directly to the battery, but to where the battery earth lead bolts to the chassis. This gives you the best "clean" electricity with the minimum of interference from other electrical things. You don't connect the negative directly to the battery because sometimes you can wind up with a lot of current finding its way through your radio, which will kill it for sure. Quite a common mistake, apparently.
At any given point in time, somewhere in the world someone is working on a Land-Rover.
