G'day All, I know this vehicle's history, I know the original owner and the reason it was off the road for many years, and I know who restored it from top to bottom, it was sold 1st with less than 12,000k's on the clock, when it was restored, it was used my my mate (2nd owner) to drive to n fro work, it never saw a dirt road, he sold it to the present owner, and yes the odometer reading is correct.
I have a Series 2A 88" GS with 2,7something miles on it all original as well cheers Dennis

    What a car!
Excellent model! I guess this one would have the 5 main bearing motor...
I would love one of these, but not as imaculate as I would be too scared to use it!
What is the santarna overdrive? are they like a fairey? are they any good?
It will be interesting to see what it goes for.....

It is possible that it has the five bearing motor. These were only fitted to late production Series 3, but as far as I know were not fitted to any Australian assembled vehicles. But station wagons were mostly fully imported, so this one may have been late enough to get one, although its actual build date may be earlier than the date quoted.

The Santana overdrive fits in the same place as a Fairey, but is reputed to be far tougher and longer lasting. However, they are very rare, and unlike the Fairey, parts are problematic - if you ever need them.

G'day All, It has indeed the 5 main bearing engine, I'm not sure of what it's build date was, but I can tell you it was the very last Land Rover sold by Les Sharpe (Cessnock) BLMC dealership cheers Dennis

    Puzzling

I saw this vehicle appear on Ebay just moments after it was listed, then made contact with the seller in order to get more detailed pics and info as I wouldn't mind securing it myself.

He replied asking for my email address, which I sent, and since then no contact has been forthcoming.

I've sent 2 other prompts asking for the pics and further info, to no avail.

I'm hoping he's simply busy servicing chain saws or whatever he does, and genuinely hope the fires give him a wide berth, and of course I wish that for everyone else too.

If anyone bumps into him, could they please pass on the message that I'm still keen to acquire this vehicle.

    Regards,
    Ross.

Ross, I don't know him that well but in past conversation he has mentioned that he doesn't spend much time on computers. (hence why he isn't on here)

I'm sure someone here will be able to pass on your message.

    Thanks Shonky,

Getting down to the wire on the auction, and time for scrutiny is fast escaping.

Be a shame to have to give it a miss due to lack of info.

Taking a punt regardless is an option of course, but common sense dictates caution.

Fingers crossed he attempts to make contact.

    Regards,
    Ross.

    Contact!

Managed to contact the owner "Chris and had a lengthy discussion re this vehicle.

His email with pics must have bounced as he's not up to speed with pc's.

The decision as per sale price is now going back into the hands of his wife, where hopefully an agreement can be reached which may enable me to acquire this vehicle.

    Fingers crossed.

    Regards,
    Ross.

Sorry to disappoint anyone but it looks like the vehicle has been pulled. LAND ROVER SERIES THREE 1981 MODEL MINT - (end time 11-Feb-09 15:22:18 AEDST)

Perhaps the vendor decided to keep it, got a better offer for a private sale or didn't appreciate the discussion on AULRO.

    Who knows?

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

There were no official 2nd & 3rd places, but this vehicle was in the final two- & it was a very hard decision.

So I guess that does make it 2nd place.
