Perhaps the vendor decided to keep it, got a better offer for a private sale or didn't appreciate the discussion on AULRO.

    Who knows?
The price went up to $6k and ended without a bid?????

As Dinty mentioned, many of the Sydney and regional people know both the vendor and also the previous owner. They also know that the vendor paid a lot more than $5,000 for it about 18 months ago. He is fastidious about his vehicles, and had replaced the few items that were missing, including getting the optional steps for the vehicle. His Series 1 and series 2a restorations were better than they were when they came out of the factory, neither did he cheat and apply 2 pak paints like many.

It's a loss that people were not willing to bid a price somewhere near the value such a unique specimen of an original low Km SIII wagon deserved. If it were mine I'd be keeping it, perhaps some lucky purchaser will let us know if it did end in a private sale.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

I'll own up, I was going to have a bid - what a lovely vehicle! (Although Shonky thought I was going to thrash it!). I couldn't have afforded much over 6 so probably would have been outbid anyway. That'll teach me to wait for the snipe!

Perhaps navigation2000 has offered the right amount and therefore sold prior to auction If so, he/she has a superb car.

Anyway, it's great to see such a nice Series 3 appear on the market and a credit to the owner. I'm sure there won't be another too soon.

Like I said - shed car for shows, not trip truck for the CSR.

    Looks like Sleepy nailed it.

An agreement was reached privately, and yes, I've managed to secure it.

Chris is happy, we spoke again this morning and I'm delighted to say it's worked out favourably for each of us.

I hope to fly up and collect it in a fortnight or so.

To be honest, I'm quite excited to be able to take possession of this vehicle, and it will now reside with my 1978 ex army series 3 GS, which some may remember was discussed here a while back. The fully rebuilt blue and white 2 pak, and black powdercoated unit which was listed on Ebay last year.

It has gone to a loving home, I assure you.

    Regards,
    Ross.

Good that it is going to a loving home, but still I personally hope it stays original spec and not fitted with a turbo Holden or something else along those lines.

The word custodian comes to mind, with the responsibility to allow it to remain an excellent example of the marque and series. There are plenty of other already butchered vehicles for us to play with and modify to our hearts content.

    Thumbs up

    Good onya Ross,

I think you would have outbid me anyway as I wasn't gonna go much higher than the starting price.

You and I must have similar tastes. I remember that Blue one - I even contacted him regards an offer - (Now that's twice you've got me)
    (North Coast NSW?)

No hard feelings - however you are now banned from ebay for 3 months

Okay - now at least if I can't have them could you atleast put up some pictures so that I can be even more jealous.

Well done - good to see them go to a loving home.

And remember to look after it or Shonky will be after you!!!!

    Cheers
    Paul

Fear not Diana, I guarantee that it will remain entirely original and pristine, and if anything ever requires replacement it will be all genuine parts.

I already have 1 modified Land Rover, so that will sate my urges.

My wife has already claimed it as her show car, so that kind of takes care of that.

    Sorry Paul,

    I couldn't help myself.

Yes, I'll post some pics of the 2 vehicles together for you, no problem.

My hope of securing the blue one was a fluke I thought, and it was only after the owner saw the kind of care we give the other cars here, that he allowed me to have it.

We have a fully modified HQ Statesman here that we show, and regularly take 1 st places with, and we also recently took possession of a mint 1979 Corvette that's about as pristine as you can hope for as well. I expect we'll be taking to the podium with that one too as it's a genuine 70k miler, all original, always garaged unit that has been carefully maintained by the 2 previous owners.

The Corvette went back to its previous owner for a vist a couple of weeks ago and he's delighted with the way it's coming up since we took it under our wing. Amazing what a bit of detailing know how can do.

Both those vehicles are regularly driven, yet maintained to show standard at all times. This new addition will see the same sort of treatment.

We won't disappoint the team deliberately.
