The compliance plate will be in the engine bay - it is the same sort of plate fitted to all Australian delivered vehicles since the early 70s. It will most likely be on the plate in front of the radiator or maybe near the top of one of the mudguards - sometimes on the firewall. On my series 3 it was on the radiator panel.

In Land Rover the chassis number and car number are always the same. Only the components like engine, gearbox and axle assemblies have different numbers.

Also if you wish to confirm the date, check for original electrical components and the carburettor. They are all dated. The good ones to check are the back of the instruments and the wiper motor. Starters and alternators often get replaced as do carbys. There is also a code on the glass but I never get it correct, best ask someone else.

The axle casing numbers are punched on the top leading edge of the front assembly usually between the diff banjo and the breather. On the rear it is the top trailing edge in a similar location, take a wire brush and some engineers chalk if you have some.
