I have a '74 Series III 109 that I sort of befriended so that a mate of mine didn't send it off to the wreckers. For A$500 it's not bad. A little tired. A little sad.
It has mostly been sitting around waiting for me to do a few things to it and over the last few months the clutch pedal has been getting stickier and stickier to the point now that it's hard to move at all.
It was a nice sunny day today so I decided to take it apart and give it a bit of love. I got the pedal box out without too much trouble.
Reading the workshop manual (page 33-3, section 33.30.02) I managed to remove the pin in the pedal shaft at the opposite end to the oil hole.
The problem I have is that the pedal shaft is stuck to the pedal box. I've tried putting a pulley puller thingy on it to try to press the shaft out with no luck.
I'm looking for some advice as to how I should proceed. Do I heat it? Do I try to soak it in something? If so what? WD40? Kerosene?

G'day All, I'm not sure what you mean by 'stuck to the pedal box', if you have removed the pin it should press out, but you will need a suitable press to attian that end, the pin goes through a ? phosphor bronze bush, so maybe heat wouldn't be a good idea, give it a good soak with some penetrene and then take it to someone with a press, hope thast of some help, LOL if you lived locally I would say drop around and I would push it out for youcheers Dennis
By "stuck" I mean that when I push the clutch pedal with the pin removed, the shaft doesn't move relative to the pedal box. Whatever is stopping the shaft from sliding out must be between the surface of the shaft and the pedal box where the shaft slides in.Originally Posted by Dinty

I wonder if the phosphor bronze push is the mistake I'm making. I can see it on the workshop manual drawing now I look again.
Due to the phosphor bronze bush, does that mean that the shaft can only slide out one way? That is, by pressing on the oil fill end only, not the other way?
I only tried pushing one way.
I left WD40 soaking in via the oil hole over night and this morning I find that the pedal moves freely on the shaft.
The shaft is still stuck to the pedal box, but with a freely moving pedal I can forget all about removing the shaft. From now on I just need to keep the lube up. Lesson learned.

There should be a 1/4" unf or 6mm bolt depending on age in the end of the shaft.
This is supposed to be removed and have a squirt of oil applied in the hole when servicing the car.
This never happens, so, swap the bolt for a grease nipple, angled type if neccessary, and don't forget to grease it at each service.
