Very nice! I love the shortys, especially the style side utes.
Is that a petrol or diesel?
Hi,
I've decided to put my LR Series 3 LWB on the back burner, due to the time it's taking to get some needed parts to rebuild it.. So I've decided to get to work and rebuild/restore my 1979 SWB Series 3 UTE instead. (At least I will have something on the road soon ... I hope.)
Here are some photos of it before I start to dismantle it. I'll add more as I go.
I have already removed the bumper/bull-bar, both doors and hinges. (Hinges came off quite easily, which surprised me) Tonight, I'll attempt to remove both guards, roof, windscreen and what else I have time to do..
She will be getting new springs (Para's), new rear X-Member, a sand back of the chassis, and repaint etc. Installation of brand new 11" brakes all round. New master cylinder and brake booster/servo. (The current braking system, is a Dual system, which is a factory install from what I can tell, so it's staying that way) New door bottoms, and tops etc...

If you change to lwb brakes, you also need to change to lwb master cylinder.

Well it's currently got one of these in it, complete with booster/servo. I managed to get a brand new one, and boy are these buggers expensive.. (And so is the booster/servo, got a new one of those as well..)
Left photo, what the master cylinder should be. Middle photo, what is in it at the moment.. Right photo, what I have to put back into it..

Looks great. Look forward to pics of the rebuild.![]()
This thread is bookmarked! Always love a good Series rebuild.
More stuff done... Removed the roof, windscreen and rear window assembly.
And dismantled some of the dash.. (I'm impressed with the condition of the dash components.. Hardly any MAJOR rust at all, so far..But then, I had her garaged for the last 17+ years, so that would have helped with it's preservation). There are some splits on the top dash, but I guess that should be easily repaired... I hope..
Will need to remove the firewall/bulkhead. As the drivers side floor pan needs replacing. Passenger side is fine.. I'll be picking up the new weld in floor panels on Friday. So hope to have it all dismantled by the weekend.. Ready for some welding work..
Will add pics when I get a chance to..

More Photos of the dismantling process...
