Except that the picture predates Telecom and it's associated yellow, and is taken on a DCA site. ;)

Note also the white roof and white bonnet, and lack of PMG brushbar etc as standard in that part of the country at the time.

Keep in mind that it is a low-res scan of a 35+ year old photo... Colours may not be true to original!

This is the picture next to the one above in the album. When looking at the original the colour is distinctly yellow, rather than orange but it is hard to tell in the scan. :)

Your dad would know, but I would assume that both DCA techs and Telecom linesmen would need to work at DCA facilities.

And yes when you blow the vehicle image up you can see that the SIII wagon is likely the DCA yellow.

If you do a white balance on the image, using the white on the tower as your sample, the orange is less vivid. Also if you zoom in on the door you can just make out the "M" and "G" of PMG.

The only ex PMG LandyI recall going through the sales yard at 4x4 Motors Blackburn during my time there was a 71 model 2a that was fitted with the earlier light casting version of the Salisbury rear diff and an ENV front end.
Anyone know if that was a common spec on PMG 2As ?

Except:

1) The person that was actually there is 100% certain that it is a DCA truck, as he spent a fair amount of time in and around it.
2) If you look at the slide from which the print was made, you can make out the DCA logo on the door - no PMG in sight.
3) The photo was taken before the colour change.

It's a DCA Land Rover people - case closed! :angel:


PS - went through a few thousand slides today and found some more Land Rovers (among other things. We're mainly doing this for family interest, but since we're sifting we may as well look for Landies too) Will get prints/digitals made and share. :)

Later they used Toyota Land Cruiser FJ55s, like this one:

This one is PMG red but most of the FJ55s in his pics are the later Telecom yellow colour which came in around 1975. (available per request - I haven't scanned them)


Thought these might be of interest to someone.

Of note is the tail light cups and brush bar, both of which are similar but distinctly different to military items of the same era. Also note the water bags on the brush bars!

Anyone else have some pics of PMG Landies to add to the record?

One of the other members referred me to this old post about PMG series landy pics scanned from your old man. You mention red cars with brush bars and tail light guards etc which seem identical to my vehicle (although someone has butchered my roof). All the photo links to this old post are broken, I was wondering if there might be some way you could let me see them. Mine is a red 1972 2a (might be one of the absolute last 2a’s) sold through Faull’s in Subiaco.
