PMG (later Telecom) Land Rovers of the mid-1970s

I'm visiting my old man in Perth at the moment, and this time I have finally got around to scanning some of his old Land Rover photos.

My Dad was a PMG (later Telecom, even later Telstra) Technician in the early 1970's and worked all over WA. Most of these photos were taken around Tom Price in approximately 1974.

Later they used Toyota Land Cruiser FJ55s, like this one:

This one is PMG red but most of the FJ55s in his pics are the later Telecom yellow colour which came in around 1975. (available per request - I haven't scanned them)

Thought these might be of interest to someone.

Of note is the tail light cups and brush bar, both of which are similar but distinctly different to military items of the same era. Also note the water bags on the brush bars!

Anyone else have some pics of PMG Landies to add to the record?

My farther also worked for the PMG from the late 40's until 1970 when he died.
He drove Landies that had a canvas cover on the back. My memories are a bit vague but I thought 1 of the Landies he regularly bought home was green.
This was around the Proserpine area of QLD, he had a lot to do with building "Se-com"? sites & installing auto exchanges through the Whitsunday Islands.
I do remember I dreaded seeing his Landing coming into the school because that meant I was in Deep, Deep Doo Doo.
I used to love riding about in them.
I will see if I have any old pic's but I think most of what I have are just group photo's.

Brings back memories of parts picking at Flemington Spares, Homebush. The ex-PMG Landies weren't popular to the private market as they were frequently trashed. Hard work and too many different drivers. It was also the days when many of the Government Auctions only admitted dealer customers and not the general public.

When I started work with OTC(A) - Overseas Telecommunications Commission (Australia) in 1965, we used Land Rover utes. When I was at Moree Satellite Earth Station 1968-69, we had an LR ute.

When I was transferred to Ceduna Satellite Earth Station in Nov '69, Ceduna SES had a Cruiser ute, probably an FJ45. The local PMG Supervising Tech had an FJ55. I can't remember it being red.

I'll have to check my slides for any pics.

My memory (for what good it is) says OTC used Yellow or Orange (perhaps to distinguish it from PMG).

No, ours were grey, standard LR colour. DCA used yellow.

No that looks like a Telecom orange one.

The DCA ones were more like the Land Rover "Game ///" but not quite so loud a yellow.
