Group buy 1" core plugs for series motors

i am getting some brass shouldered 1" BScon core plugs machined to suit the 2.25l series landy motor.

these are the plug above the welch plugs and hidden beneath the manifolds that usually done in alloy and the alloy ones you buy these days are not shouldered and are a PIA.

cost will be $20 ea plus delivery

there are 2 on each motor...

    anyone interested?

    Sounds like a good idea.

Not getting the one at the back of the head, or the heater plug done?

Given the difficulty of removing the old ones, the need for a specialist tap to clean the threads, etc etc. Surely a better and cheaper option would be to drill out the holes and fit standard core plugs - like the S3 engines have???

For the rivet counters, I doubt the new brass plugs will look anything like the original aluminium ones anyway???

your having yourself on surely ...

it takes stuff all to knock the old ones out in my experience

i have a tap to clean the threads (you can get thread files with 16 tpi cheaply at tradetools as well)

not many people would have 1" drills laying around

you would need the motor out of the truck to get at the rear of the two holes on the side of the block with a drill

and 10 minutes with a rough file and you would have them looking very close to the early domed head alloy jobby they originally had..

Each to their own. When I had to do mine, I had to drill out the remains of the alloy plug, machine a custom tap on the lathe (and then harden it). chip away enough remaining ally to get the tap started...

I decided if I was ever to do it again I would fit standard core plugs, despite now having the tap...
