    Exhaust Pipe Radiant Heat Problem?

    I used the local exhaust shop to fabricate the connection of the Holden engine pipe to OE LR intermediate & muffler tailpipe system so as to get the exhaust to exit correctly ie over the O/S rear wheel.

    He has run the engine pipe a bit too close for my comfort under the N/S petrol tank:






    The clearance is 40mm.

    Should I be considering mounting a heat shield on the pipe? Eg via 2 upside down U-shaped exhaust clamps. Or am I being overly anal?

    IDE be concerned about it getting hung up on on stuff in the bush and yeah I think it could cause an issue with h tank

    You won't want that drain bung to leak!
    A bit close for comfort I think.

    This is what I did...

    After these were taken I bent the edges down to extend the shielding of radiant heat.
    This is the normal exhaust system running under my auxiliary tank. Like you I was a little concerned that the radiant heat might cook up the fuel. The tank does get warmer than the other one, but some of that would be airflow from the radiator.

    That's exactly what I will do with identical clamps & strips of stainless steel.

    That's 100mm wide light guage stainless steel with 2x 45deg folds for stiffening.

    Of course now the danger is that the exhaust clamp bolts will pierce the tank and then the fuel will flow over the guard onto the hot exhaust and....

    well you get my meaning Im sure...
