    Universal Joints for Series landys

I have had a few issues with buying uni joints.
    one website says series 1(1951)-series 3(1980)=same uni-(75mm)
    another says series 1-series 2a(1964)=same-(75mm)
    and series 2a-series 3(1984)=same-(82mm)
    another says series 1(1953)-series 3(1984)=same
I got sold a universal joint that said covers up to 1980, yet both my 1979 prop shaft need 82mm uni joints not 75mm.

I am curious to know what year models use what uni joints

Typical aftermarket parts suppliers, you get the same with tie rod ends.

The S1 and SII are 75mm and the late SIIa and SIII are 82mm (the same unijoint as a ford falcon or F100 which are cheaper)

The change over axle number is not listed in the parts manual, suffice to say it happens in the SIIa era. The actual sizes listed are imperial and are 2 5/16" early and 3 7/32" late.

All the SIII vehicles were originally 3 7/32".

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

And since the prop shafts are interchangeable from Series 1 (not 80" or 86 front) through to end Series 3, perhaps measuring what you have is not a bad idea!

Propshaft UJs up to 1963 are parts number K5-L4R (75mm?).

After that, they are K5-13XR (82mm?).

    69 2A 88" pet4 (still in disguise), 68 2B FC pet6 (still resting quietly), plus 16 other parts/project cars (1xS2, 7xS2As, 8xS3s), soon increasing!!!!

    Useful to know.

Is that any particular model(s) of Falcons and F100s i.e. selected years or Falcons generally?

    Cheers,

I know it was all the 1970s and through to the new millenium but not 100% sure of anything after the EA/EB but assume they are.

Getting the uni-joint using an Land Rover part number at Auto-Pro was almost double the price when getting the Spicer or Ford Part number also at the same Auto-Pro, yet the box was the same with an added sticker for the LR part. Go figure?

    Series 2 a universal joints

Yep taking off what you've got and measuring is a good idea! I just got caught... Rears actually turned out to be 82 mm x 27 mm (it is an early 2a but rules are made to be broken)

The relevant REPCO universal joint is K 513 XR, and they look pretty solid, more so than the GKN/Hardy Spicers I got from Paddocks, and set me back about $25 each

There is a good tute on how to remove , on Land Rover Toolbox videos on You tube.

    cheers,

    BB

As I said - the prop shafts are interchangeable, and at this remove you rarely have any idea whether what is on it is original or not!
