Little point in installing them - you'll find that there will be no measureable increase in fuel economy.
Leaving the front hubs as designed (original) keeps lube going where it should.
So I found the above freewheeling AVM hubs in a bucket of parts the other day, thought I would throw them on the 109. I was cleaning them up - took the selector bit off and was mucking around cleaning when the little 'locating pin' that holds the engagement gear thingo from spinning came out. I've had a quick play but can't figure out how to get it back in successfully. Pulled the 2nd hub apart and found that the pin was missing completely.
Q1. Is the pin needed, can I just throw it out and use the hubs as is?
Q2. If no to Q1, how do I get it back in and where can I get a new pin for the 2nd hub?
Sorry about the quality of the photo, my camera died and had to use the phone.

I knew this conversation would start!
I have a LSD in the front and 32x11.5xR15's on it so the steering is heavy for the mrs.... was hoping for an improvement that way.
I dunno,, I had these on my S3, made a huge difference to fuel, and to the handling/steering IMO
87County, that's also why there aren't any on there at the moment... I thought i'd put it the way LR intended.
Not sure on the AVM ones. I have the selectro units on mine - I've had them apart but they have a 3 pin design.
I ran these on my old IIa years ago and yes, they improved the steering no end - I didn't keep an eye on fuel usage, so not sure if it helps there.
I'll be keeping the selectos on mine when I restore it.

thanks guys, would it help if I took more photos?
These look to me like they would be plenty tough when in use! The old girl came with selectro units on it but one had exploded, so I removed both and fitted fixed drive flanges.
It says on the front that they are made in Brazil, under licence from Warn.
Yes, I believe they are much tougher than the selectro units. Still available new as well. - Products AVM
If (when?) the selectros explode, I'll look at buying a set.
ARB are stockists for them, but I cringe to think how much they would want for a set.
Model 405 for 10 spline (early - series I, II, IIa and some III's)
Model 406 for 24 spline (late - series III)
