i am using Haynes service and repair manual for guidance and am following the steps in the engine section #15 flywheel, flywheel housing and rear crankshaft oil seal - removal.

The rear main bearing cap in the part outlined in red.
It bolts up from the bottom to hold the lower half shell of the 2 half shells which form the main bearing.
What you have circled holds the rear oil seal, which on an SII may still be a rope seal.

cheers Lotz,
any idea how to remove the rear main bearing cap?
haynes workshop manual says to remove two retaining bolts and tap out using a soft alloy drift, where are the retaining bolts located?
cheers again for all the assistance, especially being the last day of 2014
happy new year to everyone

Hi Josh
Sorry I missed your post. To remove the bearing cap, first you need to remove the sump. Then all will reveal itself.
The bolts are vertical up from the bottom.
