    Series springs

Will this work.I have a new set of rear 88 springs will they work in a 109.I know they have a lesser capacity but the 109 never carries anything heavy, just need a bit softer ride.

Actually, according to the workshop manual the distance between chassis bush centres is identical between the 88 and 109. And the width is the same on all Series except early 80". So they ought to fit, although the bushes on the 109 are 1/4" lower relative to the chassis datum than on the 88.

However, don't forget that even when running unloaded there is a substantial weight of chassis and body above that of the 88 on the rear springs compared to the 88. So you could not expect to carry even the load that an 88 could carry.

I put the new springs in they are higher can't get in the shed now.It still rides a little harsh compared with my 88.May have to look at tyres & tyre pressures but it certainly looks a lot better.

Unless it either is well loaded or has station wagon springs, a 109 is always going to ride rougher than an 88. For the basic petrol model the 109 only weighs 158kg (11%) more than the 88, but has a disposable load 454kg (100%) more.
