    2.25 Petrol Oil Bypass Hose

    Gents,

Looking at doing some engine works and I keep bumping into the oil bypass hose part 275679... I don't seem to have one on my SIII

Is this normal? its a very early model. What is its function, the old mill is burning heaps of oil, I'm bracing myself for a bit of a head rebuild and at the very least a rebore, but wondering if somehow for some reason this pipe has been left out for some reason...

Anyone any thought on such thing? If i should have one could someone spare a photo to show where it goes, the exploded diagram in the parts manual indicates its at he back of the block/cylinder head on the carry side but gives no real hint as to what it screws into

    Appreciate any help as ever!

    cheers

    Hi Ian.
found this image online. Tube runs from rear, middle of block to rear of cylinder head.
It feeds oil up to the rocker gear.
Don't know why I is missing on you S3.

Parts book shows it on all versions of the engine. WIhtout it, it is hard to see how the rocker gear gets oil.

    Ha Ha Ha!

    What a complete halfwit!

I really should log off from here in shame and come back under a pseudonym... Thanks for the help boys, so i checked the mill out this morning (its still early here in WA) and now i know where to look, guess what? Oil bypass hose. Admittedly thin copper pipe pushed up against and same colour as the block, but i really should have noticed it when i replaced the rear core plugs eh? So thanks for the advice and the kind offer of a replacement Tim.

Both you restoration jobs are going well, like some others I'd love to have a look at your SIII when its done Tim, maybe some time in the Summer when my Engine will be in bits and I'd have lost my way on the rebuild.

    thanks Ian
