Replacing "jewel" lights in speedo instrument

    Hi All,

I bought some new genuine smiths plastic (red, green, blue and orange) jewel lights.

Has anyone replaced these ? I am interested to know whether they need to be glued in or just press fit ? and if they are glued in, what sort of glue to use ?

I am yet to actually open up the speedo and multi instrument, so just thinking ahead.

    Thanks
    John

I've never replaced these, but I have had the speedos apart. I am pretty certain they are just pressed in, but if glued I would use superglue.

They're held on with 'one way washers', easy to push on, hard to remove. It's easy to damage the jewel when removing..W.

    Thanks guys, much appreciated.

I'm not sure if my one way washers are still there, I won't know until I take the instruments apart, hopefully this week.

At lease I know they need to be secured somehow, and if I can't find those washers, I might try some plastic tube or an o-ring on the inside to keep them in place.

    Cheers,
    John

Plastic tubing will work, I've done it in the past.

I found the one way washers, along with broken bits of green, blue and orange plastic.

I have another question though, at the inside end of the black plastic tubes that the bulbs go into, there seemed to be some sort of black rubbery gasket or seal, see the pics. One came out ok but is distorted, maybe from heat of the bulb, and the other was just fell to pieces.

Does anyone know what the gasket things are for ? I can only guess to stop light leaking into the main beam jewel perhaps ??

Anyway, has anyone come up with something to replace these ?

    Thanks
    John
