Help needed fitting winch to S3

    Hi Guys,
My lad is wanting to fit an Aeroparts winch to the front of his S3, and has almost everything he needs except the bit that I think is called the driving plate (ie, the disc that bolts on to the crankshaft pulley, with three round pins in the front, and two rectangular keys poking out the back) . To me, it doesn't look very hard to make this plate; nor is it heavily loaded (only has to compete with a small brass shear pin!) so the material probably doesn't need to be very clever.

I can have a guess at the dimensions, but it would help me a lot if there was someone out there who could maybe make a few measurements (specifically, dia and length of the three driving pins, dimensions (esp length) of protruding keys on the back, and thickness of plate body.
The pictures I have been able to find suggest that the disc is centred simply by the protruding keys locating themselves radially on the end of the crankshaft - is that correct? If someone could take a snapshot of the back of the disc that would be a big help!
    Thanks in anticipation...

Does the crankshaft have a couple of cutouts for the tab washer and the 'keys' locate in the cutouts ?

Thanks for the reply. I had seen those particular pictures - not much help, unfortunately.
It may just be a terminology thing, but I'm not sure what you mean by your question. The attached photo may hold the answer.

    Thanks Jim,
I had seen their site. I had another look but could still not see the individual part I was looking for, not any reference to "the book they supply". Is it a "You have to register" thing?
    My hobby
    (one of many)
is machining so I am keen to make this thing, anyway.

Looks like the 'keys' on the rear of the drive plate locate in the grooves in the crank pulley.

    Shouldn't be hard to make.

Yes, that’s what it looks like to me, and I expect that they reach back far enough to center on the crankshaft itself. But some actual measurements would be great confirmation!

The bit you are looking for (I think) is actually replacement for the standard starting dog, and is one side of the dog clutch that engages the winch. The notches in the crankshaft pulley are for the locking washer, not for driving The arrangement was somewhat different over time.

Series 1 and, I think, Series 2, had a three pin dog, circular in appearance, with the driven shaft held in a bush supported by brackets off the front of the engine to keep it aligned, with the shaft sliding.

Series 2a and Series 3 had a dog with a deep groove across it to take a cross pin as the driven side of the dog clutch and with the bush in a bracket hinged off the front cross member.

For the later one the part numbers are RTC7015 for the 3 bearing engine, RRC1582 for the five bearing. I don't have the earlier optional equipment parts book.
