It is also superior to most metals and oils in high pressure / high temp situations - it is used to replace tungsten in tooling, used as armour plate, used in cannon barrels and as a coating on precision ammunition.

In ww2, it was used by the germans as an engine oil additive in their fighter planes - if the engine lost oil, it would continue to operate thanks to the moly coating on the moving parts.

What this means to the average landy is subjective I suppose - but the science on Moly - which is still evolving today - is quite compelling.
I'll write something up tonight, but when Molybdenumsulfide is activated it is considered a boundary layer regime of lubrication.
Oil and grease rely on hydrodynamic lubrication to keep rotating or sliding bits apart.

Actually I'll cut and paste an article from Loaded 4x4 that describes how and why solid lubricants like moly actually work.

Perhaps worthwhile pointing out that the properties of the metal which are used in alloys for things such as gunbarrels and armour are unrelated to the properties of the sulphide that are useful as a lubricant.
