Half shaft bearing, which way around ?

    Hi All,

I didn't pay much attention when I took the front swivels apart, so now I have to ask which way around does the half shaft bearing sit ? I labelled the two options in the attached photos as A and B. My gut feel is A, but I'd like confirmation.

    Thanks

    Doesn't matter.
The difference is only the cage that separates the roller bearings.

But.....it does look odd, almost as though a side plate is missing. On one side the brass sections between each pair of rollers have dimple in them, was this where a side plate was attached ?

Just checked and yours must be a **itpart bearing.
The cage is plastic and it does look like your pictures. Originals were riveted brass.

    Either way round is OK.

I ended up putting plastic collar inward towards diff centre ,only because I was worried about dislodging rollers when inserting half shaft it's a bit of a juggling act on front due to uni joints.

Thanks guys, going with the collar towards the diff is same as my pic A, which is what i thought the orientation was.

Yes it is a Britpart, still not cheap $30 from Paddocks. How much is a genuine bearing ? and where do you get them ?

    Thanks

I think you'll struggle to get an original unless NOS. It's also likely to be very expensive.

Won't matter which way round, just got to hope it hangs together like a Hoffman or SKF original.
Most I have suffer from rust where water has got into the front axles.

Even John Craddock shows the **itpart item.
Total Parts list theirs as Koyo/Bearmach but you can't tell from the picture. Twice the price of **itpart.
Brit-Car have the Bearmach bearing and it has the same plastic cage as the **itpart.
Landy Point list it as Timken but the bearing pictured is the same as **itpart.
P.A.Blanchard list 'genuine' but no photo, 30GBP. Wonder if it's the real thing.......

Probably specially made for the application and only aftermarket available now (despite advertisers claims.....).

Thanks Colin, Britpart it is then !!

I've only had two issues with Britpart parts, tie rod ends rusting right in front of my eyes, and brake master cylinder showing some white corrosion looking stuff on it, everything else has been ok.

    Cheers,
    John

Wait till you buy rubber Parts from them.....

They don’t make anything, it’s all outsourced so I’m always surprised when I’m Told Bearmach parts are better because they must often be from the same manufacturer.
Don’t get me started about OEM, OEM supplier, OEM quality etc.etc........
