After receiving brand new aftermarket pins, I noticed that the old ones fitted better with less play, in the new railco bushes. I think the oil would do a decent job of lubricating the pins but I have gone ahead and also installed nipples on the pins too. More the merrier. Here are some pics.

First, using a lathe I bored with a 1/8 drill bit 48mm into the pins, then bored a larger hole of 8.5mm at a depth of 15mm so I could tap a 1/8 BSP thread into it for the grease nipple.

Then using a mill drill I positioned the pins centred in the compound table. Using verniers I measured 48mm down the length of the pin. Once again using a 1/8 drill bit I bored down the radius and connected the two holes. I confirmed this by blowing a little compressed air in the grease nipple end.

Then using the 1/8 BSP tap which matched my grease nipple thread pitch. I then left the top pieces of the pin assembly in a oven to let it expand so the pins would go in a little easier. Photos below of final product and shimming up the swivels to correct friction.

Hopefully, combined with regular maintenance this might extend the life of the swivel housing components.
