    2LT 1958 Thermostat

I asked this on my build thread, but I thought I'd put it in the generic Series area as well as the 2LT spreadbore was used in late S1 and early S2 vehicles.
I'm having trouble locating the correct thermostat, probably because I'm not sure what I'm looking for!

    • Is there a suitable aftermarket part?
    • Can anyone give me a supplier and part number they have used?
    • Is the skirted version necessary?
    • I can't find anybody who specifies the 2lt engine, a few do stock the skirted ones for the 2.25 though. Are they the same?
    • Some on this forum are saying they just leave the thermostat out altogether, is this wise?
    • what temperature rating do I need?

This picture is from the Parts Catalogue, It's got a big fat spring under it, I don't think Tridon would sell it...

    Advise please...

if you have an old one, cut the centre out of it and refit the outer as it restricts the flow to make sure there is the pressure to get the water to the back of the motor.

they seem to have vanished over the last couple of years as the were easy to find when I got one for my early 2.25l motor a few years ago.

I fitted a conventional thermostat over 10 years ago without issue, from memory it was a conventional one that came out.
There was a discussion on the forum recently about the reasons behind the skirted version.Help with Thermostat Housings and Thermostats

My local Repco seem to be singularly useless most of the time, however I'll give them a go...

Thanks for the link Colin, don't know why I couldn't have found that thread, I think I will continue this topic over there.
