    Fuel Pump.

    Hi,
As Jonnyboy landy, is looking to fit an electrical one,

Im cleaning up an early S2 fuel pump, with the bracket, and two screws, holding the valves in.
What is the best was to remove that sticky fuel residue ???
Tried carby cleaner, brake cleaner, spray degreaser plus straight fuel. I need to clean the brass round gauze and other bits.
Would this earlier one be better than the later type. It has a solid brass arm, and appears to have a longer arm action, more fuel delivery, than the later one I have fitted, with the multi layered arm.
    Thanks whitehillbilly

I contacted BP some years back, here is their recipe for a solvent to dissolve the residue

For cleaning out the gums a mix of Toluene, acetone and methanol or methylated spirits works, the ratio is 40% toluene with 30% acetone and 30% methanol.

    It did work from memory.....

Nitro-cellulose lacquer thinner is good for removing all sorts of baked on or hardened crud.
