Are the Game and the 2a both 3-seaters?
,W.
Craig,
The IIa was about the time the headlamps moved to the wings.
Headlamps in the front panel are more sought after (Series I, Series II & some IIa) because it's the iconic Land Rover look.
Metal dash, headlights in the front panel, no plastic components what more could you ask......
Can you double-de-clutch ? If not you'll have to learn with the IIa. Changing up from 1st to 2nd can be OK, but 3rd down to 2nd you have to 'double shuffle', selecting 1st is usually done at a standstill.
My 18 year old son has an '89 Liberty and the synchros have 'gone'. He double-de-clutches on the way up & down without even thinking. Went out with his boss the other day in a manual and he double-de-clutched and his boss asked WTF ? It doesn't come naturally to me and I have to think about it...I kept messing it up and finally worked out I was approaching junctions etc. too fast and didn't leave time to double shuffle !

All Synchro box?
A true LR Driver should be able to master the Std. S2A box no probs. Double declutch? No worries.
That is one of the challenges of owning an ancient LR if you can do something that your mates can't do on a proper vehicle.
A driving Instructor who took 'er indoors for a drive was amazed that she could DD, but she was brought up in East Africa in the days of the Mil Jeep & so very very young.
If in doubt, buy both. Job done.
Basic rule for collectable vehicles - something unique always trumps the run of the mill - a limited run 300 vehicle Game is always going to be worth more than an everyday series 2 which still are a dime a dozen - they are there if you look.
Same process applies if just looking at series 2a - lights in the mudguards (in Aust they are not wings) are less desirable than headlights in the radiator panel.
