According to the books, the changeover was 1969, eight years into Series 2a. My 1970 has lights in the front panel! Possibly it was converted in service, but also possibly the Australian production used up existing stock of panels or was slow changing tooling. At the time, I believe these panels were made locally.

Yes but I'm English and so is the car ! Mudguards are on cycles & motorbikes.
Mudguard is more descriptive of what it does. The earliest cars had wheel guards that looked like wings, hence the name and it's stayed in the English vocabulary.
The other one I've been 'picked up on' here is dynamo & generator.
A dynamo and an alternator are both 'generators' but here a dynamo seems to be exclusively called a generator.
An English mate followed me today and phoned me to tell me a brake light was out. "It's on the ...." there was a pause, I jumped in and said "you were going to say either nearside or offside but stopped because most Australian's wouldn't have a clue what you were talking about..." when he'd finished laughing he confirmed I was right.

I bought a new Nissan Patrol in 1976 & according to the article posted by Johntins, the Game was retailing for $7695 in the same year. I do recall considering it, & it being poor value for the money, as you could have purchased a SWB & added your own accessories for much less. I know they took quite a while to sell out. It was also way above the price of a similar Landcruiser too.
I currently own a '77 SWB but would buy a Series 2 in a heartbeat- if I could get it in my garage..
