Wagon or Defender110 rear Seat in the back of a 2dr Series 3 LWB

    Hello All

    I'm new to Land Rovers.

I'm considering buying a LWB series 3 to put on historic plates and "do up" with my 2 young daughters.

Can anyone let me know if it is possible to put a front facing rear seat into a two door Series 3?

I'd buy a Series 3 wagon, but they seem to be a bit rarer than the LWB 2 doors.

    Thanks

Probably possible to install it but the mounting & seatbelts would need 'engineering' and the seating capacity changed.
Depending on your daughters ages you might need to look at child restraint mountings (I'm sure NSW is similar to VIC).

I'd be looking out for a LWB Station Wagon. Not as common and there is much more to overhaul/restore but seating is straightforward. Try to get one with seatbelts fitted as some of the brackets are hard to find nowadays.

I just turned one down locally with a Holden motor fitted and parted one out a few years back. They are around......

    Thanks Colin

i think i've come to the conclusion that the best would be a Series 3 Stage 1 wagon. or a ute/2dr with a bench seat. Now just have to find one for a reasonable price in a reasonable state.

Kids are out of child restraints now.

To amplify Colin's answer - there are substantial body differences between the wagon and the two door (applies to both the Series 3 and 110/Defender).

While a conversion to fit a rear seat is probably possible these are pretty major. Compared to the two door the four door wagon has the following differences, apart from having an extra two doors:-

    1. The bulkhead behind the seats is not there. The front seat backs rest against this! In the Series 3 the bulkhead is replaced by a crossbar that the seat backs rest against and on the 110/Defender the seats are completely different and the back is supported by the seat base. The loss of rigidity to the body is restored by additional framing.
    2. The floor is lowered by around 10cm to provide footroom. Again, more framing, and a lot of panel changes.
    3. The front few inches of the side box over the wheels is lowered by about 5cm on the 110/Defender, and on the Series 3 the whole box is lowered except for a wheel hump.

The most practical conversion would be to swap the entire rear body from a wagon onto your chassis. Then you only have the legal issues, which should be fairly easy, and although a body swap is a fairly major job, it is nothing compared to what would be needed for a conversion.

I have heard of one (Tasmanian) 110 that has been converted from a wagon to a two door and later converted back.
