Things that get overlooked when servicing. Brake/clutch pedal pivots & trunnions

Looking for something to do in the peace & quiet of the shed at the weekend I decided to overhaul a clutch pedal box.

When I took it apart the pivot pin & bushes were OK but the trunnion pin at the end had worn badly along with the holes in the pedal. So I got a spare pedal box took it apart and it was considerably better.
On the bench I noticed that the pedal with less wear had washers welded either side of the trunnion pin holes, effectively giving twice the surface area. So at some point in production the washers were added.
I remember having to manufacture trunnion pins for my Dormobile because they were badly worn.

The pivot pins for clutch & brake have a bolt in one end, behind this is a hole leading to a cross drilled hole for lubrication of the bushes. Military vehicles always have grease nipples in place of the bolts.

So....every now and again it's worthwhile removing the bolts in the pivot pins and pumping in some oil, alternatively fit grease nipples & grease. At the same time take the lid off the pedal box and lubricate the trunnion pin.

I'll second that - and not just Series. I had to replace the master cylinder on the clutch of the 110 - because it has a grease nipple on the shaft I was puzzled about why it has been squeaking for a while. Trunion completely dry and shiny, so I greased it. Now quiet. Removed the large blob of grease on the pedal shank - maybe I should be less enthusiastic about greasing it!

I thought some of the series had a bush with a grease nipple over the shaft, i also recall finding the shaft with a grease nipple in the end to help lubricate it.

    Ian,
The pedal pivot is bushed and the shaft often has a grease nipple but the trunnion at the end that attaches to the master cylinder shaft doesn't. The only way to lubricate is to remove the pedal box top cover.

If you look at the pictures in the 1st post you'll see the wear in the trunnion pin and the pedal arm. This was from an ex army IIa so it probably led a hard life.
