Does anyone know if the LT76 gearbox 3/4 bush is better whole or pre split?

Last LT76 gearbox rebuild (years ago) I was offered the pre split 3/4 bush (was an OEM, well came in a OEM box) which seemed reasonable as the one I was replacing started life whole but had split (and the rough split and subsequent wear caused all sorts of slop on the mainshaft annoying 3/4 gear, not to mention glitter oil). However now I am rebuilding the box again I note both bearing halves have come away from their respective pins and have been spinning and wearing to again cause slop on the mainshaft. Does anyone know if there is any benefit to a pre split vs whole 3/4 bush, or is it just a bad design that will eventually fail either way?

    Hi Stephen.
I believe the flexing mainshaft cause the one piece bush to split.
When I rebuilt my S3 gearbox, I loctited the one piece bush to the shaft, so if it breaks, it is still connected to the shaft, so the gear continues to rotate the bush.
The problem I see with the two piece is that the pins hold the one half, but unless loctited, what stops the second half of the bush rotating on the mainshaft ?
    Maybe thats not a problem.
    Just my thoughts.

    Hi Stephen,
I’m also deep in my Series II gearbox and after the same answer! I’ve watched a few videos on YouTube where they suggest the one piece is better. I then went to order from British Autoparts and it states on their website that the two piece is a better option 🤯.
Did you decide what to go with?

Some interesting comments here where HNJ Engineering were looking at making the bushes.

    Mainshaft Distance Sleeve - 239706

I scored a couple of one-piece bushes (NOS) in a job lot recently so I'll use one of those in the next gearbox rebuild.
