    Engine ID

    Good morning.
Any thoughts on this engine please ?
Looks like an early Series one, but then it doesn't look like my two Siamese bore 2 lts, which I am guessing is the 1600 with oversized bore ?
Oil filler cap has later S3 style fitted. Molded thermostat housing. Oil filter fixed to block.
Spread bore motor had oil filter on other side ?
    6 blade fan
    Thanks.

    Correct - it’s a 2.6 litre 6 cylinder.

Is it yours? What plans for it? Very smooth motor when running well, quite thirsty on fuel though. Getting hard to get parts for but they’re still around if you look hard enough.

Took me a couple of years to get everything together to rebuild one, I just need the machining done and a gasket set and ideally a new cam with better specs but the only person I knew that had that info has passed away unfortunately.

I'd have thought JDNSW might have had some info, Gav?

Sorry - no. Never actually been directly involved with the six, and never had any data on modified cams.

It is quite clearly a Rover engine, six cylinder, and the manifolds look like the one out of the Landrover - but similar engines went into several cars from 1949 on, with capacity from 2.1 to 3.0l, and I cannot be certain from the pictures whether it is one of them.

Good point John - although by the arrangement of the engine I’m confident it’s out of a Series Land Rover, the Rover 6’s of the era all look similar and a 3.0 Rover engine is a straight bolt in where the 2.6 was as would the smaller variants although I’m not sure what you’d do that.

Still most likely to be a 2.6 though.
