major issues with series parts suppliers

Hey all. I'm having major issues with suppliers. From just giving terrible customer service, actually advising on wrong parts and just generally getting a huge run around, to being lied to and misled and more. I'm actually at my wits end with some of them. One supplier I told I was coming to their shop over an hour out of my way and they still didn't have the parts they said they would. Is it a land Rover thing?

I don't want to name and shame (I actually do want to though. I think it's ridiculous and you know none of these companies have online reviews... why would you think they disabled them?)

Sorry for the rant. Has anyone got recommendations for which suppliers you use? Or do you just risk it and get the cheapest and best parts and hope they turn up?

Depends on what you're after and where you want it from.

My default parts supplier for all my Vehicles is British Car Components - British Car Components - spares and parts for British cars, Melbourne Victoria, Australia - Best service I've found and they will generally give you options regarding quality V price too on a lot of items so you can make some informed choices as well. They are close to me so I always just drop in for a chat and to grab what bits I need - I think they do shipping, but I highly recommend you give them a call - You'll get Graeme or Dave - both top blokes and Graemes knowledge is like an encyclopedia - was there the other day for a water pump for the 3.9 V( in the Rangie - he was on the phone but heard what I wanted - said straight away the part number, where it was and how many were in stock before Dave could even get a word out.

I have ordered parts from OS before as well plenty of times and have found Paddocks to be very good in this regards - they have an AU website that shows all their prices in Aussie dollars too - Land Rover & Range Rover Spares - Paddock Motors - Paddock Spares
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

I had some decent experiences with these guys: About Us
Hope they aren't one of the mobs you tried.. but I found them willing to help on the phone, they had what I wanted and it arrived in Melbourne quickly ( pre covid ).
Series parts are a bit of a raffle these days. They can be made anywhere, and the quality varies wildly. There is still a large demand, but LR couldn't care less, not that I really blame them. The newest Series is around 36 years old.

Hey good work thanks! I've priced stuff from 4wd in the past I'm pretty sure. Pretty sure I bought a heap of stuff from TR in Sydney a while back. I've been going for the best prices up until now, but it's caused me way more money than it would have just getting the more expensive parts (assuming they're the right parts and actually turn up etc)

Not the suppliers I was having issues with, unsurprisingly

About 95% of my purchases are from overseas.
Typically a saving of at least 30% over buying locally and they are the same parts.

Delivery is typically 1 - 2 weeks although Covid has caused a few extra delays.

With Paddocks use the part number search function and look up the part number you need. A lot of parts are not shown under the various categories but are there if you know the part number.
Seatbelts are 'cheap' and AU/NZ approved. There were out of stock of lap belts for a while but by contacting them I was tipped off when they came back into stock.

Others use Bearmach, I haven't personally but I have compared them to Paddocks and some prices are more expensive, some are cheaper.

    Thanks Colin.

I've often wondered about buying from overseas the freight was always a big concern, especially with so much of the stock I ordered being heavy parts. I had ordered exhaust and shocks and the like in one order I could imagine the freight from os would've been pretty high

I've ordered DeLuxe seats, shock absorbers, door tops etc. still cheaper than local even with freight. I haven't needed exhaust sections so not sure how freight would work out on those but if you're buying these locally they probably came from India via the UK anyway.

Look on the Dormobile & Carawagon Conversions section of the forum.....

Still a work in progress, need to make a headlining. I've made formers for bending the masonite but haven't got round to experimenting yet.

I use LRDirect. UK Online only.
Pre covid, I put an order in early Monday morning. I got its Wed afternoon.
Latest order took 10 days. $198 included $68 postage. Same product and brand fro Aus supplier $342. That didnt include postage.
Site gives you different product range. Must use part numbers.
The latest order, had been upgraded with the incorrect part. An email was answered by two different people within an hr of sending.
Intermediate exhaust was part of the same order and postage costs, but was sent separately.
Didn't arrive yesterday with other part of order. I quizzed in email. They are going to look onto its whereabouts.
    DingoCroft. excellent.
    Syncro gearboxes. excellent.
