    Sealing down floor panels

I was working on my FFR at the weekend, getting close to re-fitting the floor panels & was wondering about sealing the panels into place.

It looks like a narrow tape was originally used, maybe foam of some sort ?
I have some butyl rubber strips but this stuff sticks like brown sticky stuff to a blanket so might make future removal difficult. Anyone had any long term experience with foam strips and if so what type of foam ?

Closed cell Polyurethane, closed cell PVC, NBR.........seems there are many types, I guess most will break down long term.

I used butyl rubber sealant in a tube on another project, haven't had to lift any floor panels but I think it will be fun.....

    Hi Colin.
I didnt seal mine. Easy to lift floor panels when needed.
Water has to drain out somewhere !!!!

Not sealing them down potentially lets water & fumes in, the doors open to let water out.....
As it's a military land rover there will be no floor covering (maybe a rubber mat).

I'm looking for something that seals but can be removed fairly easily hence trying to decide what foam strip seal to use. Seems they used something like this when they were built.

Found some answers on here, Googled and linkled back to AULRO ! There was even a comment by me.
Front floor panels - seals or silastic

I use a closed cell tape about 3mm thick and adhesive on one side. Easy to use, seals it, and no problem disassembling.

I used the same and it seems to be working well - I purchased it from Bunnings I think…

    Cheers,

I approached a local company who supply sealing material to industry.

Closed cell industrial foam made of a blend of PVC nitrile and neoprene with aggressive acrylic adhesive
25% compression to make it weatherproof.
    25mtr roll of 9mm wide 3mm thick was $20.46

They cut to width so I paid and it was ready to collect within a day !

Expensive by the time it's shipped but if anyone wants the details and can collect in Dandenong, alternatively I can collect and you collect from me.

I used a bit wider than that, I think it was 12mm, but 9mm should work.

I went down the path Mr Hillbilly did and used no sealant firewall is not airtight and some fumes are inevitable
It seemed to me that every series LR I disassembled had rot in the bottom of the foot wells where floor lapped the flange at the bottom so some drainage via no sealant could be helpful

    Cheers Paul

It might be water trapped in the gap because there is no sealant that causes the rot ? Surface tension will keep it there so it might not automatically 'drain'.

I'll stick with sealant if you'll excuse the pun......
