    Hello All,

    Being the inquisitive little sod that I am, I asked myself, "what is a rivet squeezer that Colin referred to?" I found some on eBay - not much change from $300 Australian.

    That's the profile that Clark Rubber used to sell, aperture for the steel strip is incorrect.
    I investigated the back shed today while having a clear up and found some I purchased in back in 2007/2008 to fit to my Series I. I didn't bother to fit it as it's clearly NQR.
    Seems that someone in Australia is making the seal but the profile is incorrect.
    The company that I'm dealing with used to supply Clark Rubber, a few years back they thought that the die was in their Malaysian company but I never got any further. They recently said that they could source some and I await the sample but suspect it will be like the Clark Rubber seal.

    I took a picture along with a good reproduction (but I've no idea who supplied it) and some original seal.

    While in the back shed I had a tidy up, recent delivery from Paddocks needed putting away.
    I purchased some cheap secondhand Brownbuilt shelves a while back and have started to store parts in a way that I can hopefully find them in future years.

    I've been collecting two-stage screw jacks from the local Trash & Treasure for years, mostly Toyota, Nissan & Daihatsu. Handy in a Land Rover, the hydraulic ones tend to leak if they fall over. Found I have 15 jacks ! Maybe time to stop collecting....
    There are 4 Fairy overdrives, all damaged, maybe I should source the parts and get one complete & working. The high ratio transfer box on my Isuzu powered Series III shorty seems a better option though.

    Still need to tidy up the main garage so that I can get to the lathe & mill without having to move stuff.

    OK, I've seen a drawing and it looks like the seal in post #2. I've updated the advert in Markets.

    I'll work out how much I need to keep for various projects and then see how many people want the seal and in what quantity.

    I will also look at getting some of the steel strip, once we get some freedom in Melbourne.

    Managed to measure the door seals for Series II/III, details attached.
    Just need to dig out the Series I and measure what I need for that.

    Where no lengths are specified it's a different seal type (bottom of doors & bottom of catflap).
    Being 'modular' there are joins where panels can be removed, you need to allow a short overlap at these joins although I did 'round up' when measuring. For some reason I got different lengths for top of catflap & top of one-piece rear door, probably trying to bend a tape measure round the corners ?

    Checking my Series III shorty I found.....
    A couple of sections of seal had been replaced without the steel inner strip, they hold in place OK and I'd not realised the strip was missing.
    The vertical section either side of the tailgate were a different profile but could have been replacements. No internal strip.
    The seal at the bottom edge of the catflap is a different profile held in place by an overlapping aluminium strip riveted into place.
    The original seals seem to be rubber rather than an EPDM sponge.

    Seal has arrived and been shipped to those that replied to the For Sale advert in Markets.

    It's a good approximation of the original but I think the original was rubber and this was EPDM sponge rubber.

    If you want to try and track it down the part number is 39-499R, not sure who actually extrudes it but it appears in a Google search. Even comes up with a post I made on here years back !

    Rare Spares have it listed but I bet it's expensive Sponge Extrusion Suit Land Rover Door | RSP Automotive & Industrial
    A company in WA have it at twice the price I paid RS39-499R EPDM UV stable closed cell extruded sponge

    I'm sure other suppliers can source it, the only way to get a good price is to buy a full roll though.

    Finally got round to ordering zinc coated steel banding as mentioned earlier in this thread.
    Signet's Own Zinc Coated Steel Strapping - 12mm x 250m

    Seems about right but rather a lot of it !
    If it works out OK I can cut it into lengths & sell on to anyone that wants it.

    I did notice in Classic Land Rover that a company in Europe was selling a seal kit but the strips were aluminium. I tried this a few years back and it wasn't strong enough. Zinc coated steel seems a lot closer to what was originally used.

    I'll mark positions for the holes & punch out for the rivets. Not sure whether I'll need to punch holes in the seal, lining everything up will be fun.

    Strip arrived and I punched a test hole.

    I think this will do the trick but marking and punching the holes will be a pain.
    Details of the punch are in an earlier post.

    So I have seal, strip & rivets all I need is time !
