Arthur Goddard was the Project Engineer on the Land-Rover, with the job of taking the drawings that came from the Wilks Brothers and turning them into a fully-running 4x4 vehicle, using where possible existing Rover car components. That he and his team did so in 9 months has to be one of the success stories of the motor industry. And, of course, it saved the Rover Company from bankruptcy, and provided us on this forum, and the wider 'Green Oval' world, with the vehicles that we swear by (and often at!)
Arthur was the last survivor of that team, and with his passing a link to the Land Rover origins has gone. I'm sure you will join me in sending best thoughts and condolences to his family in Australia and the UK.
Arthur died peacefully in Brisbane, Australia this morning. He was 101
