My Series 3 109 Tray has inertia reels. These passed a Vic RWC some years ago. Whether a VASS engineer would like them I don't know. Heck, they could be factory....

Getting to the final stages of Series 2A 109” tray utility refurbishment ( not restoration) and I need advice regarding seat belts. I am not fitting middle seat it will be an armrest come refrigerator so can I fit retractable belts or am I limited to adjustable lap sash due to anchor point behind the seat back. The car was fitted with plain adjustable lap sash but new ones are needed. Thanks in advance for advice.

There was a upper bracket for the single cab, it's been discussed on here in the past.
I'd have to track it down.
There is a VSI for seatbelts, I have a copy at home. VSI 21 I think.
Paddocks seatbelts are resonably priced an AU/ NZ approved.

Few if any Series 2a were fitted with seat belts from new (although SMHEC was fitting seat belts to Series Landrovers from about 1950. Inertia reel seat belts were fitted to Series 3, at least later production. My 2a single cab is fitted with a Series 3 setup. This uses a bracket for the shoulder mount bolted between the curved cab window and the door. This carries a guide for the belt, and the inertia reel is mounted on the bulkhead between the seats, with a reinforcing patch about 10cm square. The lower mounts are standard Landrover brackets common to S2/2a/3. Note that the inner ones, for a trayback, need a steel strap back to the tray support.
This setup should pass muster as it uses standard parts for a later vehicle that is almost identical. The only catch is the shoulder brackets are are hard to find, and if fabricated would need engineering. And would probably strictly be required to meet current standards! Which is likely to be impossible.

I have attached photos of mounting points for both upper connection of lap sash belt and one of the bottom passenger side connection. As you can see the uppers are just below the top of the seat at the join of the cab back to lower section they are not above users shoulder height which is why I asked about inertia style belts. It is as fitted and last registered with. Your thoughts are appreciated.
Those are standard 2a mounts. Mine (As late S3, but actually on a 2a)Seat Belt Mount_4223.JPGSeat Belt Mount_4222.JPGSeat Belt Mount -4221.JPG are shown here. Your lower mount is the same.

Getting a bit expensive though, you could make something and make it look 'factory'.

I have a set of the HNJ mounts for my IIA truck cab, they are extremely well made. Unless you are very good with your welder and can bend plate steel accurately at home my recommendation would be to buy a set from them.
