Registering ex-army S3 with no known rego history - South Australia

Has anyone had any experience in registering long-demobbed ex army vehicles in SA?

I'm looking at a late 70s Series 3 GS which appears to have been based in NSW and possibly later in VIC but then ended up on a property in QLD when it left service in the early 90s.

A PPSR check shows no return for the chassis number and a very helpful lady at Service SA could find no trace of the chassis or engine numbers on the national registration database (I confirmed the chassis number was searched in both the chassis and VIN number fields - I've been tripped up on that before).

I'd have to therefore assume that it went straight from military to farm and was never registered anywhere in Aus.

Being ex-army and given its age I'm pretty sure there are no compliance plates. Engine number, ARN etc match the REMLR records.

Discussions with Regency (also surprisingly helpful) seem to suggest there's no legal barrier to it being registered but it would need to go though a full ID and roadworthy check (the latter wouldn't be great but from the discussions I've had it wouldn't require anything silly like trying to meet compliance of modern emissions standard etc).

Has anyone been in a similar situation in SA?

I'd love to restore this one but it's a lot of money to gamble.

The blokes there have a great deal of experience with registering old vehicles, with mysterious provenance.
From what I've gleaned from that site, Recency are usually hell on earth.
    Good luck.

You'll need to come back here, sooner or later.
