    and the massive amounts of funding it allowed for aviation technology, which gave us bizarre and wonderful thing slike this...

    Love the Bereiv aircraft, especially the BE-103 & BE-200. Never had seen this one of theirs though.

    I have the BE-103 as my desk top background.

    I don't think VTOL is the right description for it, this craft used the Wing in ground effect to get enough speed to take off if I recall.

    The russians made some incredible WIG (Wing in ground effect) aircraft (also called ekranoplane)
