Well thinking long term with the isuzu and two of the problem areas are typically firewall and chassis. Would like to get hands on perentie chassis however pretty thin on ground. Therefore Marshal's in UK have readily available V8 110 Gal chassis. Freight is the hassle but rate is good at moment. Not looking to go down this road yet, but future options.
So is there any difference between V8 and Isuzu chassis, mounts etc. What's the legality of chassis swap.Is this a feasible option for another 25 years service.
Cheers
Paul
ha mate I have a county that had a v8 fitted, I removed the 8 and put in a Isuzu, all you have to do is chop the mounts off and fabricate new ones up weld them on and get the mounts engineered, take time to get the alignment right but it was pretty easy.
Same here >>>>>>>>> V8 to Isuzu
'88 County Isuzu 4Bd1 Turbo Intercooled, '96 Defender 130 CC VNT
'85 Isuzu 120 Trayback, '72 SIIA SWB Diesel Soft Top
'56 SI Ute Cab
Have a look at Rovercare's 120 extra cab. Now using a 130 chassis and fabricated the mounts to suit the Isuzu etc. He has mentioned getting it gal dipped.
Looking at the prices of the ex UK chassis, wouldn't it be cheaper to get a local V8 chassis, mod the engine mounts and then get it dipped?
Hercules: 1986 110 Isuzu 3.9 (4BD1-T)
Brutus: 1969 109 ExMil 2a FFT (loved and lost)
It will be easier if the year of the chassis is no later than the year of the engine - year for chassis is in the VIN (stamped in chassis). Otherwise check with an engineer who can certify vehicle mods in your state before jumping ahead.
The V8 engine mounts on the chassis are different and further back than Isuzu. An alternative to removing and welding new engine mounts on the chassis is to fabricate new mounts to bolt onto the 4BD1.
