    engine disabled

well it the 2nd thing in a week to go wrong with the car. 40 min ago i was at the shops and when i got back in the car all the door locks didn't unlock (used the key in the door as the remote is stuffed) and i thought that was funny. then i put the key in the ignition and it wont start, it comes up with "engine disabled, press key"

i have tryed locking unlocking the doors, making sure all the doors are closed because i thought it might of been a miss lock, both keys for the car, taking the battery off putting it back on

so now i'm up the creek with out a paddle and no ideas, can any one help?

Have you tried replacing the battery? It sounds like you need to reset your key, but you'll need to get it working first (from reading this: Engine Disabled ).

Assuming the fob is working get in shut the door turn the ignition key when the display says engine disabled press the unlock button on the fob and hold for 3 or 4.5 seconds
I set it by: if the car is locked put the key in the door and unlock it keeping the key turned while pressing the unlock button on the fob at the same time.( I think that's right) If the car is unlocked, lock it with the key keeping the key turned and press the unlock button on the fob. This will reset/recode the fob.

just got it home on a tow truck. any one want a p38 on gas? i'm not happy right now with it.

yes replaced the key battery and it lights up when you press a button but doesn't do anything to the car. took it to a dealer about a year ago and they told me it would cost $400 per key to reprogram them. i'll go try to set it in the door like you said now.

just tryed the key in the door thing, didn't work.

any one got a faultmate around sydney, central coast NSW i can borrow for a weekend? the car is on the central coast but will travel to get it if i have to

Have you tried entering the EKA code?
Most early RRs had it deactivated though (not sure what MY you have).

**Just checked, you have a 95 so it's probably deactivated.
PM the last 6 of your VIN & I'll check.

I have some very recent experience in this area .....

Firstly it is unlikely to be the key that's the problem.

The Engine Disabled message means the security code between the BeCM and the engine ECU is out of sync. This needs to be re synced, as you said with a faultmate or similar.

PaulP38a is in the Canberra area and may be able to help you out.

For a longer term fix you will need to check your door latch mechanism and possible replace it, and possibly it is also a sign your BeCM itself is on the way out as was mine, and it had exactly the same symptoms.

For the door mechanism, a quick check can be to pull out the rubber boot between the door and the body of the car and you will find 2 wiring harness connectors. Examine them to make sure they are clean and in good condition. If not clean them up - it can affect the communication between the door lock and the BeCM.

Maybe I can help... not sure yet. I've just taken possession of a tablet PC and bunch of Rovacomm cables from the previous owner of Hard Range. With any luck, this will be the multi-vehicle version.

    I'll keep in touch.

    Cheers, Paul.
