    Chook Yard Bullying

I moved into a new house a few months ago and inherated 3 chooks with it. All has been going well untill about a week ago when the 2 younger chooks have started picking on the older one and now it looks like it is nearly pre plucked ready for the pot with a heap of feathers being pulled out. Now the older one won't come out of its nest box due to the others picking on it.

I have never had chooks befor despite living on a farm a good chunk of my life. How do I get them to play nice?

Probably just the Natural "Pecking order" sorry about the pun, but animals have to prove their position in the hierachy, the stronger ones will always want to show there dominance, and the weaker ones will be left for dead.

There is a fair chance the older chook is sick.
Pick it up and see how it weighs compared to the others.
If its very lite in comparisson it may be time to dispose of it.

I have found a good quality nine iron seems to sort the bully out
As posted before... It would be likely the older bird is unwell. Can you isolate them for a wile till it picks up?

Chooks will always attack and even kill one of their kind that shows any sign of illness or weakness. I doubt that you can stop it.
