    2.25D Starter Motor

I use a starter motor out of a Tdi in my 2.25D. This works fine. Recently, the sprag clutch has stopped transmitting the drive to the pinion. I have disassembled the starter motor and got the sprag clutch out, but am having difficulty finding a replacement. It has a Bosch ten digit part number on it, but Bosch only want to sell me an entire starter motor. Does anybody have any idea where I could get a new sprag clutch from?

Alternatively, does anybody have any experience with aftermarket (non-Bosch) starter motors? Are they worth getting, or do they fail relatively quickly?

    Aaron.

Find an old fashioned auto sparky and let him see the clutch. There will be others like it with luck. For example a Renault 16 has the same clutch as a Holden red 6. Saved my day many years ago.

I believe its the same sprag clutch assy from the late 2.25D unit.

an auto leccy should be able to sort it for you.

I just asked for a Tdi starter motor. I did not know there were any differences. It would most likely be a 300, as I seem to remember them telling me that they only keep the one version, to suit both 200 and 300. Are there differences between 200 and 300?
