    Discovery 4 Tyres

Does anyone have a recommendation for 19" tyres for off road work?

Goodyear MTR is really at the moment the only serious Offroad tyre, Some of the members are running Pirelli Scorpion ATR's from memory.
    Cheers.

I ran MTRs on my D3 V8 and have kept them to use on the soon-to-be-delivered 3.0 TDi D4. Despite the low profile they are amazingly good on sandy beaches and rocks. Need to watch pressures to make sure the sidewalls don't impact the ground (I keep 20-24psi for rocks and and least 16psi for soft sand). They are also amazingly expensive.

After 16k I'm stoked with my Scorpions. Might be hard to get at present, I hear - but a mighty fine compromise as far as I can tell, tho not in the league of the MTRs in the really rough stuff. Lot quieter on the smooth, tho.

Hi Jesse B, did you notice much difference from the original tyres?
Also, are they much more aggressive?

Sorry Disco4SE - I had them fitted before the vehicle left the dealer's yard. So, what can I say? Quiet? Yep - not a whisper of road noise. Performance on-road? Seems fine to me - I've not spun or skidded or done any unexpected circle-work (yet!) - though to be fair we've not had a lot of rain, and I don't hammer it (very often). Off-road? So far, so good. Performed really well on a recent GOE drive day, in both sand and rocks - but they ain't MTRs!

Aggressive? No, I wouldn't say so. Google "Pirelli Scorpion ATR" images and you'll find a whole herd of pics.

As some have noted in other threads - almost sounds too good to be true! I guess we're all driving into the unknown somewhat, and it all may come crashing down somewhere along the way. But for now, I'm a happy camper.

I put the scorpions on the D3 recently and absolutely agree that they are quiet. This was very noticeable and the mrs confirmed it as well without asking. No serious off-road work on them yet and I'd describe the tread pattern as a mild ATR. Better than the road biased wranglers but I think the general grabbers might be more agressive but haven't compared them side by side.
