    Goodyear MTR

Guys, I'm a bit confused re above and current availability; Barbagallo Tyres in Perth (owned by Barbagallo LandRover dealership) tell me they just grabbed 62 MTR's, ie all they could get in Oz, (I saw them in the shop) and they retail them at $495; they are NOT "Kevlar ones" (their words). In Adelaide I have been quoted $575 fitted - by the guys at Goodyear is checking if these are Kevlar or not (he has 5 in stock - that's all he can get in Adelaide.

So, are there two types of MTR Wrangler? Kevlar and Non? Have they stopped making one or both types?

    Any help appreciated

    cheers

    Chris

Yes, i have been told Goodyear make the Wrangler in 2 specs as well.

I recently got a set of Muddies for my Bravo, had a look at most brands and decision came down to the Goodyear's (kevlar) or a set of Mickey Thompson MTZs, i went with the MTZs.

In my opinion the MTZs are a far better off road tyre, side wall has more flex and tread has better self cleaning.

Only other Mud orientated tyre i wanted but couldn't get a look at was the new BFG KM2, none in my town, dealer said BFG too much trouble to deal with lol.

What size are you looking at, i was quoted $320 fitted each for Wrangler Kevlar, 31X10.50R15LT, got the mickeys for $290 each.

The 19" MTRs are the old style and are passenger construction. All other MTRs are the new style / pattern with Kevlar in the sidewalls and all are LT construction.

These are quite possibly old stock tyres that LR Aust recently sold off cheaply.

It might pay to check the manufacture date if you decide to go with them.
I just bought a set of MTRs in 235/85/16 this way & the tyres are about 3-4 YO.

The older-style (non-Kevlar) MTR's are the tyres the dealers have access to. They are apparently ceasing production of these at some point this year (maybe have already?). The price from Goodyear is around $575 per tyre, the dealers are selling them at discount.

The Kevlar MTR's are not available in a 19" rim size, at least not yet.

    Cheers,

OK, so I cant get the LT construction tyres then - in Australia? Were the Landrover G4 Challenge tyres the LT ones? I wonder if I can get Kevlar ones out of USA?

No, the G4's use the non-kevlar tyre (no 19" kevlars, even in the USA).

    Interesting question.

Speak to you local "KMart" tyre place, seems they will order from the US. Had a friend wanted Kevlar for his 4wd (non LR) and the only place which would get what he wanted was Kmart (in cairns actually... where he is based).

I was getting some mods done to my caravan today and questioned the boys regarding the Goodyear Silent Armour's they fit to the latest ATV's and Top Enders and was told this lot only had Kevlar under the tread, none in the sidewall, to get the kevlar in both sidewall and tread I would have to get the MTR's.

So the question is. is kevlar only under the tread or in sidewall as well?
