disco v8i duel fuel question???

hey all,

i have recently got a 98disco v8i running duel fuel and i only get 300kms to 80ltrs of lpg gas. is this normal and if so im looking at going long distance 4x4ing and am tossing up between if i should put another gas tank inside or get rid of gas and just run a bigger petrol tank coz atm i only have a 30ltr petrol tank (twin 40ltr gas tanks taking up under the disco)

Sounds like what I got in my lpg, perhaps just a little more.

You can put a sill tank of petrol in under footwells that will give together another 80L of petrol, in remote areas, there be no lpg anyhow--
Alternatively, buy a diesel, its everywhere in outback and range is better.

Not sure if that is what you wanted to hear though.

Advance the timing to 10 degrees, then fit a LPG fuel processor and oxy sensor in the exhaust. This can add 20% to your economy.

I had a 95 Disco 1 V8 and after advancing the ignition timing I was getting just over 400km on 82 litres of LPG. Any playing with the power valve on the lpg can make a big difference in economy. Mine was out by a turn or two and was getting shocking economy. The only problem with drastically advancing your timing is that petrol will then knock like crazy. A solution to this may be to buy a advance retard module similar to the ones you get from RPI. I only ever ran my Disco on LPG after I advanced it. One time I drove at 90-100km/h due to roos on a country stretch of road at night. I managed 515km on 82 or so litres. This was before the timing advance so I reckon you can gain ground just by adjusting the mixture.

Most sill tanks from early Rangies can be adapted to a D1, all you need to do is to link the breathers and fit a pump to refill the small corner tank. My mate has two sill tanks under his 87 RR which originally came off a 79 model. I found them on ebay for him. He only fills them for a long trip as he too has LPG under the back.
