    Question Extended Warranty...again (I know...)

I know this has been nearly done to death, because I have read just about every post on this forum, but I have a specific question that I cannot find the answer to.

A bit of background; I have just applied for finance for an '05 TDV6 SE from a LR dealer over here in Perth. The original purchaser did not take the extended warrant offer and consequently the LR warranty expired in '08.

I have spoken to Luke Teys and Meaghan Roulston (mentioned on other threads on this subject), both of whom offer a warranty option which basically extends the extended warranty however they are unable to help me as the warranty period has expired.

The LR dealer will sell me a 3 year warranty but as a reseller of the Allianz warranty, for around the $3k mark.

    My questions are:

Is this warranty worth the cash? I have read the pdf however am still unsure of what they actually exclude?

How can LR sell me something that other people can't? Is it some sort of LR/Allianz deal that Meaghan or Luke are unable to access? If so, is it the same warranty or are there special "get out of jail cards"?

I am unfamiliar with what the normal extended warranty covers so I don't feel that I have all the info I need to make an informed decision.

Can someone help? I am going up to the dealer this week when the finance is approved and will be asking these questions however forewarned is forearmed and it would be nice to know whether they are giving me all the info.

    Cheers,

    Norm

I'd want to know what you're going to be sold , since the Official
Allianz policy is for "still in factory warranty" vehicles. They're not
going to cover a vehicle that may have claims "just waiting" for an
    Insurer to wear .......
Who's the Insurer with this 3 grand policy this guy's trying to sell you ?
I'd be getting names and numbers for it , and phoning someones office
for clarification in writing . This could be a "Motor Dealers" limited policy
of the sort that secondhand dealers have . It'll be total rubbish IMO
FYI The Allianz policy that continues the Factory Warranty does not
cover the battery. They're all re-sellers of these policies ; brokers , if you may.
Ask for a print-out of the vehicles warranty work ; an '05 will have some for sure !

Thanks Neil, you are thinking exactly what I was thinking. I spoke to the guy at the dealer and he assures me it is the full Allianz 'Used Vehicle Warranty" as opposed to the full Allianz 'New Vehicle Warranty. He says that the used warranty emulates the new warranty in nearly every way and that as he is a dealer, he can offer it without it still being covered by the original or extended warranty.

I have a copy of the New Vehicle PDS and am now trying to find one for the Used Vehicle, in any case he is scanning one for me.

I guess if an LR dealer sells me a warranty then the Insurer would have to be happy that they (the dealer) has done a full inspection before its offered? I'm told that the car had had some steering and suspension work done while under warranty but that it was nothing serious nor different to most '05 models.

Like you say, I just want to be sure that if I pay $3k then I want to be sure its worth it.

Thanks again Neil, I appreciate your response.

    Cheers,

    Norm

Find out if there's a maximum per claim AND a maximum per
vehicle ( it's not just medical insurance that can be scam ).
I'd be surprised if this is ( policy ) the same as some of us have
with our No Limit new vehicle policies. What about the Km's you drive it ?

Also enquire whether the policy covers "others" to repair the vehicle & not just the "Dealer" you purchased it from.
    THis could be a problem

Firstly, thanks guys, this is my first foray into LR and I am unsure of all the specifics of this kind of thing.

I am attaching the two Allianz PDS, one for the New Vehicle Warranty extension that I am happy is worth the money, and the other is the 'Used' Vehicle Warranty that the dealer will sell me. I have had a quick look (while making dinner) and they both look pretty similar so unless there is a trick clause that I can't see, I think that the Used warranty should be okay.

For comparison, I will also attach the warranty offered by Auto Assure that I think is a bit of a WOFTAM, as covered in other threads. It certainly doesn't look as good as the two Allianz ones.

In your collective opinions, do you think the 'Used' warranty is as good as the 'New', taking into account the obvious difference between the two?

    Cheers guys,

    Hi Norm ...

.... I'ld be talking Directly to the mob that's honouring the (Auto Assure or Alliance) policy ... and not the messenger boy

At 3k .... man, that's a load of doe for some vague answers

I would ask 1 basic question .... which is ... I'm driving down the road and the car goes BANG ..... Am I gonna see a bill??

The *cough**cough* answer should help ya get to the truth ...

    Cheers

    The difference .............

The used vehicle policy has a specified parts list ( page 6 ).
Doesn't appear to cover ie. ICE , electric windows , key fob ,
    EPB , Bixenon heads .....
No mention of air suspension components . I'd want an Allianz
letter specifying D3SE air susp component cover since it
    doesn't say 4x4 anywhere either ( only front-wheel-drive
vehicles drive train components mentioned ???? ).
    I didn't go with the "Other Policies" for New Vehicles ;
    couldn't get any answers .

So , what do I think ? If it covers the turbo , ZF , transfer case ,
diffs( ? ) and commom rail fuel system ( which it does ) , then buy
    the damn policy . Can't see you have a choice . I wouldn't want
a bill for any of this stuff Norm ! An '05 vehicle does not have
time-on-its-side .......... Will that be Mastercard, Sir ?

PS Checkout Disco3UK/Oz&NZ section for good warranty
experiences and the repair costs . One guy had a 5 figure
repair covered by Allianz last month ! Many others are
    upthere too with their D3s ;

    Hi Chuck,

We dont do any Extended Warranties period. (Except Volvo as they do there own via the "Factory" & must meet a certain criteria-K's, service, condition, & a 3 page checklist before approval)

Been there done that, bitten too many times.

    Cheers
