You need to select a rod to suit your style.I suggest you dont go to ANY of the big discount shops, you will pay more than you need to and wont get what suits YOU.
In WA we have a great fishing website,Fishwrecked.I suggest you join up(free),there are several members that own or work in the tackle industry and look after members really well.
Great Fishing Website, hope to bump into you there!!

Now that is a reel. I have had my Mitch for 25 years and all I have done to it is pull it apart once a year and grease it up. It has caught 5 inch whiting to 5 foot long tiger sharks off the beach and rocks. Bugger all moving parts and a super big drag that is as smooth as silk.

If you check out the fish pics thread you will see the shark I pulled up at Easter on this rig

I have it mounted to a 14 foot Butterworth rod I built 25 years ago . Any of the surf rods made by Gary Howard are also excellent value and will pull any fish you hook up onto the sand, models to look at are Surf Classic Medium 13'6", Chopper Spec 12', North Shore 12' or Phantom 10'.
